Wellesley Island golf course first opened for play in 1917. The course is part of the New York State Park system.
The "signature" hole would have to be #3, where a good drive will do nothing to save you from having to scale the 40' rock cliff upon which the green is balanced. The views from the tees on #'s 4 and 5 are simply awe-inspiring. On #5, you tee off from the top of a ledge to the green in a valley below.
The course is playable by both beginners and seasoned veterans of the game, and will force you to pull every club in your bag. #1 is the only par 5, while #4 and #5 are the only par 3's.
This 90-year-old 9-hole course, formerly known as the "Golf Links", offers rolling fairways and challenging approach shots through the valleys created by Thousand Islands pink granite outcroppings. The 9-holes may be played twice from different tees for an 18-hole round.
The 9-hole Wellesley Island State Park Golf Course plays to a par 35 and a maximum 9-hole distance of 2,730 yards.
